Discussion Guidelines

Be Nice

Everywhere is about inspiration and discovery, so keep that in mind when commenting. We want to encourage people, and everyone should treat each other with respect. We will remove comments that are rude and disrespectful, but please don’t make us do that.

Only post your own words

You can quote and link to other sources, but please don’t post other people’s stuff here wholesale. Be particularly cautious about cutting-and-pasting descriptions when you create a place; it may be copyright infringement. Please put place descriptions into your own words, and if you quote, cite the source. Above all, use common sense.

You’re responsible for what you say

There aren’t any anonymous comments on Everywhere. To leave a comment, you must register with the site. Your name is attached to all your comments, so don’t write anything you don’t want to take responsibility for. Don’t make us come after you!

Use personal messages for private conversations

Don’t let a discussion escalate into a flame war. If you need to have a private conversation with someone, use personal messages.

Don’t use Everywhere to spam people

Don’t post comments that are little more than self-publicity. This includes, but is not limited to, advertising and solicitations to others to vote for your submissions.

Keep things succinct

Comments and postcards should be reasonably short and to the point, and be related to the subject of the place, photo or article that contains them. If you have more to say, we encourage you to try writing an article.

We will delete comments and postcards that violate these guidelines, but we’ll issue a warning first. Continued violation of the guidelines may result in your account being terminated, so please play nice. As with anything, use your better judgement. We’re all pretty reasonable folks.

Photo Guidelines

At Everywhere we want to show the world’s great places in all their natural splendor. To this end, we’ll only accept mostly unmodified photos. This means we do not accept photos that have been overly Photoshopped. Color-correction and levels-adjustment are fine, of course. Here’s a handy rule: If anything has been digitally added or removed (well, besides dust), it’s probably not right for Everywhere.

That said, there are a few things we specifically do not allow.

NO Digitally-added text

You do not need to add a copyright statement to your photos in order to protect them. Your photos are protected under copyright law anyway, and you don’t lose that protection by uploading them here.

NO Multiple photos in a single upload

When we ask people to vote on submissions, it has to be a fair fight. It’s not fair if you load your submission with more than one photo. So one photo per upload, please.

NO Mis-rotated photos

There’s no way to rotate a photo once it’s been uploaded, so please rotate your photos to the correct orientation before uploading them.

NO Digitally-added borders

Please don’t add a border to your images. If your photo has a “natural” border from the film, that’s okay, but we’ll likely crop it for the magazine.

NO Digital enlargements

We can only accept photos that are at least 2000 pixels wide or tall. This requirement is to make sure your photos look good in print! Please do not digitally enlarge (“Up-res”) your photos to meet this requirement, since it lowers the image quality dramatically.

NO Partial desaturation (aka “Cutouts”)

Desaturating part of an image to direct the eye to the remaining color part is a cute technique, but we’ll never print it and we don’t accept it on the website. It violates our “mostly unmodified” rule, and, besides, it’s generally just annoying.

NO Things that aren’t photos

The following things are not allowed in Everywhere: scans of things other than photos, paintings (or simple photos of paintings), illustrations, and screenshots. If it didn’t come out of a camera, it doesn’t really belong here.

So what do we want?

We want your best photos. Your favorite photos. Photos that you look at and think, you know, there’s something really special about this one, and I’d like to share it with other people and inspire them to visit this place.

If you went on a trip, shot some photos, didn’t tweak them too much, and uploaded them here, chances are you’re fine. Any questions? Check the frequently asked questions, or contact us.

Everywhere Magazine may amend these guidelines at any time for any reason. If you have questions or suggestions, please let us know.
