Philadelphia PA...the city of "Brotherly Love", birthplace of a nation, and of course...home of one heck of a cheesesteak. But, there is still so much to see and do even now in this vibrant, active city.

This is just as you enter the Franklin Institute of Science Museum...obviously in honor of the museum's namesake. Franklin is one of the city's founding fathers.

Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway for two, a family trip, or a fun time with friends, Philly offers something for everyone. There are places to stay that run the gamut price wise from your standard Comfort Inn to no-holds barred lavish and pamper you five-star accommodations. It all depends on what you are looking for and of course willing to spend.

If you're looking to hit the sights, the best thing to do is stay right in the heart of the city. Most every hotel offers parking right on the premises (thank goodness!); so that way you won't have to deal with driving anywhere you want to go if you are right in the middle of all of the action. Within walking distance is the Franklin Institute of Science Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Hard Rock Cafe, plus tons of other shops and restaurants. The other nice thing is that there is a trolley that runs a tour through the historic section of the city, and allows you to hop on and off wherever you like and just catch the next one. You get to visit the Betsy Ross house, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and more.

Another thing to do in Philly is obviously the Philadelphia Zoo. An entire day can easily be spent there. What adds to making this zoo special is that it is actually America's very first zoo. It was first opened way back in 1874, and it currently still is home to over 2000 endangered animals.

If you want a taste of the more fun, artsy side of Philly...don't forget to take time to visit Chinatown. There is actually a tour of Chinatown held every Sunday morning for those who would rather have someone lead the way. It is called the "Wok n' Walk Culinary & Cultural Tour of Chinatown", and is held by restaurateur Joseph Poon, (who is also known as Chinatown's unofficial mayor).

There are also special things to do depending on what time of year you hit the city. Winter holidays can be especially magical. The shops are decorated for your window shopping (and credit card shopping!) pleasure..and decorations abound. Since the 1950's, there has been a huge multi-media type show at Lord and Taylors (the old Wanamaker's). It features dancing water fountains, organ music, lights, moving figures and a narrative presenting a Christmas story that although no one can remember afterwards, it's wonderful to watch. Children sit on the floor of the Grand Court and watch the story played out on the four-story-high velvet curtain of the Grand Court atrium. What really adds to this one? Free admission.

Philadelphia is also a photographers dream in so many ways. You see high class to....well...not so high class, depending on where you choose to wander. You see life on every level. You get to see it, breathe it in..experience it. Philadelphia is definitely one city not to be missed on your road trip adventures.
