The Machaca family lives in Colchany, a little town distant 70 kms. from Uyuni, with less than a 100 houses in the middle of the Uyuni´s salt flat. Like almost all families in town, the Machacas live from the sell of salt. In their truck they travel for about one hour into the salt flat and load 5 tons a day, four times a week. They sell each ton in 60 bolivianos about 7 dollars. In one month the Machaca family extract nearly 30.000 pounds of salt. The Uyuni´s salt flat is the biggest in the world.
