If ever coming to Louisville in May, try to make it for the Kentucky Derby. If not for the horses, the mint juleps, the betting, and the cigars, definitely come to look at the hats!

The Derby hat is as longstanding tradition at Churchill Downs. Just about everyone at the race will be wearing a spectacular hat, whether expensive and custom-designed or made at home with glue and some cleverness. Hats have played an important role in the history of horse racing for centuries and the wackiest and tackiest are making their way to race day in Kentucky. Check out some of these lovely designs.
