Compiled by a native son and travel writer, this article serves up the 10 things that any newcomer, be they tourist of transfer, must "absolutely" do when coming to J'actionville.

1.Spend a day visiting the Castillo San de Marcos fortress and stroll the streets of historic St. Augustine.
A solid day trip filled with photo opportunities, Spanish and casual dining, sightseeing, walking down old and historic streets, shopping, and a national monument, all in the same place.
2.Take a walk down one of the several beautiful beaches in the area.
You can visit Jacksonville, Atlantic, Neptune beaches in the Jacksonville area or travel up to Fernindina Beach or down to Ponte Vedra or Crescent Beach.
3.Drive north and explore the Talbot Islands and have lunch in the sleepy town of Fernindina Beach. To get away, go north to Little or Big Talbot Island or south and stop at Antastasia Island in St. Augustine.
4.Go fishing or boating on the vast St. Johns River.
One of the few rivers that flows North, the St. Johns offers limitless chances for fishing, recreational boating and exploring "old Florida."
5.Get lost in one of the older neighborhoods and do some shopping in the San Marco or Riverside or Avondale areas. Ask anyone for directions and spend a few hours strolling the shops of these small, older neighborhood. A place to escape the commercialism of the big malls.
6.Visit the local Jacksonville Zoological Park and Gardens ot the St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Park.
Not a bad half-day spent for photographers or families.
7.Go to a Jacksonville Jaguar football or Suns baseball game. Always a fun time if you can score some tickets.
8.Take the scenic drive along the ocean on A1A down to Crescent Beach.
Another full day trip to combine with a stop in St. Augustine.
9.Indulge in the coconut shrimp served up at the Ragtime Restaurant in Atlantic Beach.
These local favorites are also served up at the sister restaurant, the A1A Alehouse, in St. Augustine. The red beans, sesame-covered tuna, and beignets aren't bad either.
10.For golfers, visit the World Golf Village and play the island hole at the TPC. If you golf, enough said.
