Barcelona Exploring Spain’s capital of cool.

It’s been called the cultural “Capital of Spain.” The architecture, the parks, the street art, the food, the music; Barcelona combines urban sophistication and vibrant nightlife with a cosmopolitan blend of cultural influences.

  1. Parc Guell

Architect Antoni Gaudi's unique style can be seen throughout Barcelona. Parc Guell is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park offers panoramic views over Barcelona with another of Gaudi's structures, La Sagrada Familia, being a prominent sight in the city below.

  2. La Sagrada Familia

This Roman Catholic cathedral in Barcelona is possibly the world's longest-running architectural construction project: It was under construction for the entirety of the 20th century, and has yet to be completed.

  3. La Pedrera

Antoni Gaudì built this six-storey house in Barcelona between 1905 and 1907, creating a standing masterpiece of Modernism. Entering the building takes the visitor in the inside of a living body, made of stone but capable to pass the strong impression of breathing, infused with a special kind of life.

  1. Incoming!

Rockers dance to the music of a popular Turkish rock-band in the early-afternoon at the yearly Barisarock free festival in Istanbul (Rock for Peace).

  2. Canopy

Sakura (cherry) blossoms in bloom along the Kanda river in Tokyo. This particular stretch near Edogawabashi is one of the most magnificent spots for the hanami (blossom-viewing) event in springtime.

  3. See You in Pamplona!

Those were the last words I heard from some Italians I had befriended in Barcelona the day before heading down to Pamplona. The odds of that happening were literally 1 in 1.5 million people expected to be reveling during San Fermin.
