The northern end of the Port of Colon shopping area, looking onto the Colon. It's amazing how we try to create a world for outsiders. -- they have this neat, colorful shopping area, something tourists might expect from the Central American country, yet look what's right behind it. It reminds me of areas of Florida though... that same feeling of creating one world for outsiders when the reality is far more stark.
Tankers pass our cruise ship as we leave Colon in Panama.
This picture was taken in January at sunset. Notice how calm the harbor is compared to the sea.
It was my first visit to another country, and it was exciting to see something so different. The man asked me if I wanted to take a picture of the monkey, and I thought, sure, what's the harm? I take a couple of shots, and the guy asked me for money for the monkey! Unfortunately I didn't have any smaller bills, so I had to go into one of the stores and make change. Word to the wise... be prepared to tip for pictures!
A trio of fishing boats anchored along the Tarpon Springs sponge docks on a cloudy day. They've already come back from their morning activities.
The ruins of Altun Ha, a Mayan city in Belize. Some 10 thousand people lived and traded in and around the city... but all that's left are these ancient buildings. The city is tough to reach without a tour guide. Choco, our tour guide, is of Mayan descent.

I am living my dream. I am a producer, reporter, writer and photographer in Orlando Florida. I work for several area publications and a TV news station. I am, first and foremost, a political correspondent, but I have lately fallen in love with the beauty of feature writing, especially travel writing. I love to travel, mostly because I never did much as a kid. So now I explore as much as I can. I especially love small towns and places rich with history and culture.
