I was photographing the flag against the brick wall when a proud Turk offered to pose for me. The sense of national Turkish pride is palpable.

Across from the Blue Mosque, the Haghia features an impressive dome and mosaics. The Ottomans converted it to a mosque when they conquered Constantinople. It currently is a Museum, and is undergoing much-needed renovation.
Built by Mehmet Aga (a student of master architect Sinan), the Blue Mosque has 6 minarets (previously reserved only for Mecca). The interior is lined with Iznik tiles.
Mario Botta's lines are the perfect backdrop for great art and conversation.
