In the River District, even the topography is artful. Every wall is part of the mural of graffiti. It’s a photographer’s dream. Shooting photos, I wander into a group of buildings and find a large wooden cross leaning against a warehouse door. It's an artifact, here where the landscape itself is art.
I look up from the cross and realize I’m being watched by a large, brown horse. It stares at me, and then slowly walks away. I wonder if I really saw it, or if some agent of creativity floats through this valley, bringing visions.
The smokestack of the abandoned, burned out Ice Cold Storage Co., seen from the Riverlink bridge, dominates the skyline of Asheville’s River Arts District.

The Kress building, on the corner of College and Lexington, exemplifies Asheville's famous architecture.
I must have photographed this mural a thousand times, with various juxtapositions of Asheville’s skyline and the missing head. One day I was walking by, shielding my camera from the rain, and saw the rainbow. In photography, the perfect moment is rarely singular, but more often comes from an intersection of several imperfect elements.
Panoramic made from several exposures on a foggy morning. This place is HUGE.

Saw a bear here once, right up at the top of the falls. Photo taken late October, 2007.
