Throw a rock in Washington DC and you are likely to hit something governed by the National parks service.
Especially if you are on the National Mall. The Mall includes the Washington Monument, Lincoln, Jefferson , and F D R Memorial, Korean ,Vietnam and WWII Memorial.
Pictured here is the WWII memorial.
The wall beyond the fountains in this photo is known as the commemorative area and on it is 4,000 gold stars, which commemorates the more than 400,000 Americans who gave their lives during World War II.
In the distance behind the stars is the Lincoln Memorial.
At the end of the underground walkway is the gift shop.
