Tern Invades Gull Island

Tern Invades Gull Island

A tern is found lingering on a rocky patch on the lake full of seagulls.

As I was taking pictures of this a woman came up to me and asked "Are you a fellow birder?"... I said not really, but she went on to talk about terns and seagulls for about ten minutes... it was actually rather interesting.

She said she spent a lot of time trying to capture the tern with a tiny camera and she just couldn't get him because he kept moving. Later looking through my photos, THERE HE WAS!!!

Geese

Geese

Geeses, gooses, all forms of multiple geesey birds. I hid behind a tree and got as close as I could to these birds because if anyone lives near geese, they know they are not only a really dirty animal, they're mean! The chase and bite! They think they have teeth! *shiver* scary

But they are nice to look at from a distance.

Docks

Docks

The dock at the lakefront of Lake Kittamaqundi in Maryland, USA. The lake is so calm and peaceful. A beautiful place to take a stroll or picnic or there are many restaurants with outdoor seating near the lake.

Cub Scouts Journey to the Edge

Story written 28 March 2008

An unexpected meeting of a cub scout troop leads to a fun adventure on the rocks.

Trees and Landscape

Trees and Landscape

One of many stunning views you can get at the very top of the 190 foot outcrop, King and Queen Seat, in Rocks State Park in Maryland, USA. A beautiful fall day with bright colors and fresh air made it a wonderful adventure.

Looking over the top part of a 190 foot outcrop, the King and Queen Seat, in Rocks State Park in Maryland, USA. A beautiful fall day with bright colors and fresh air made it a wonderful adventure.

This is the stunning view one can get after following a trail to the top peak of the rocks or after climbing up the rocks face.

A part of the 190 foot outcrop, King and Queen Seat, in Rocks State Park in Maryland, USA. Beautiful fall day with bright colors and fresh air made it a wonderful adventure.

The natural formation of the immensive rocks are visually stunning and being there in person and being able to climb and look over the edge of the rocks is an experience one can only imagine.

Peeking Over The Edge

Peeking Over The Edge

People exploring the 190 foot outcrop, King and Queen Seat, in Rocks State Park in Maryland, USA. A group of people walked along the rocks and looked over the edge. This person was part of a cub scout troop that visited the site. A small bit of advice to anyone who climbs these rocks... don't put hands in dark crevices (snakes love it here) and don't walk to the edge, it's just playing with disaster.
Also, I would advise against bringing a large group of young kids to a rocky outcrop with a 200 foot drop-off :-)

Vertigo

Vertigo

Looking down over a part of the 190 foot outcrop, King and Queen Seat, in Rocks State Park in Maryland, USA. Beautiful fall day with bright colors and fresh air made it a wonderful adventure.

What you see is the tops of trees and really the only time you would see this from this perspective would be a few seconds before you die ;-) Holding camera attached to tripod over the edge.
