Completed in 1951, the 14-story Research Tower is suspended by its central core which is 13 feet in diameter and features a circular elevator surrounded by a spiral staircase. It is no longer in use due to the change in fire and safety codes. The windows are constructed of pyrex glass tubing.

The globe is tilted at 23.5 degrees and makes one rotation every 24 hours. It features small lights that indicate the locations of SC Johnson offices throughout the world.
