The Up Helly Aa is said to be a viking festival where the vikings burned their longboats as a symbol of their inability to return home from the land they were invading.
This recreation starts on the royal mile in Edinburgh and the boast is pulled by a team of Vikings through the city up to the national monument overlooking Edinburgh where it is then burned.
