Nick’s travelogue

Tikal

Tikal was one of the major cultural and population centers of the Maya civilization. Though monumental architecture at the site dates to the 4th century BC, Tikal reached its height during the Classic Period, ca.

Petra

Petra is known as the rose red city, sometimes the lost city, but most importantly, it is an archaeological delight.

Antigua, Guatemala

Antigua sits in the shadow of of the spectacular Volcán de Agua (Volcano of Water), and is in the central highlands of Guatemala. Spanish conquistadors founded the city in 1543.

Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is the name of the largest and most impressive temple in Angkor, Cambodia. This is the largest and best preserved temple at the Angkor site, and was built in the early 12th centuary as the King's state temple and capital city.

Lake Atitlan

Lake Atitlan is located in the Guatemalan midlands, flanked by three volcanos, between which small villages of Mayan communities survive. Here residents are to be found wearing their traditional indigenous traje (though this is changing, especially for the Santigan males, who have traditionally held onto their customary dress longer than did their neighbors in surrounding cities.) I visited during Todos Santos, where the locals "re-bury" their loved ones (turning the soil on the graves, and repainting tombs and headstones.

Venice - Italy

Venice the very famous city on the water

The city of colors, lights, waters and the most romantic one

Currently in the UK.

I am, unfortunately for my wallet, a committed travel bug. However, this combined with a (slightly unhealthy) love of photography means I usually return from my travels with plenty of images to remind me of the places and people I've visited.
