Sacramento calls itself the "Camelia Capital of the World", which may or may not be an overstatement. There are lots of camelias all over the city, though. They bloom from Jan to March or so and they do brighten up a dreary winter day. This photo was taken in mid-March and the camelias were fading.
From the Capitol Park looking towards the Capitol. There are lovely gardens and walkways. All the plants and trees are labeled, in case you wonder.
When the flag is flying, the Guv is in the house. Northwest corner of the capitol.
From the Capitol K Street Mall, the Capitol can be seen clearly.
This view is looking towards the entrance of the winery towards the indoors tasting room.
The parking lot of Pilot Peak Winery is next to a lovely pasture, which you can see from the tasting courtyard.
Enjoy a flight of wine with tasty appetizers. What better way to spend an hour in the country.
Once you have entered the tasting room and been warmly greeted by the owners you are quickly served a taste of their white wine.
After that, you are encouraged to grab a plate and fill it with appetizers. Then you are ushered out to the lovely courtyard where a place has been set for you with three tastes of wine along with descriptions of the wines and a taster's notes complete with pen.
You are encouraged to take your time, enjoy the views, have some more food and, of course, more wine.
We came home with a case.
A truly lovely and fun winery to visit. It is out in the country but well worth the drive. The owners are friendly and very hospitable. The wine is good, served with tasty hor d'ouerves prepared by the wine maker. The views are serene and peaceful.
Perfectly cooked (medium rare), spicy but not over-whelmingly hot, and tasty melted Jack cheese on top. This meal was served on an English Muffin with crisp lettuce, ripe tomato and red onion. Also, your choice of picnic potato salad or Gorgonzola pasta salad (shown here.)
My husband said this was the best hamburger he had in a long time.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap goes great with the spice.
