Most Americans under the age of 40 have never taken a rail journey. So, go, ride a train...
I have a new, favorite American City - Portland, Oregon! We came by train, arriving at her beautifully restored Union Station. We left by plane from her bright and unoffensive airport. During the week in between we discovered a city that celebrates her eccentricity! World class public transport, free roaming artists and musicians, unique hotels, microbreweries, cafe's (Like this one-of-a-kind on ALberta Street) and the world's largest bookstore! Portland - you've won my heart!

Between travelers and tourists lies a distinct line that may never be straddled. We go as tourists, or as travelers, never as both.
