Light at the End

Light at the End

After a four mile hike inland, the jungles of Kauai revealed a mile-long tunnel. Aided by a flashlight, my brother and I waded ankle-deep through the abandoned surprise, snapping this shot several yards from the exit.

Washed Ashore

Washed Ashore

On Kauia's secluded Secret Beach the tide comes in strong, thrusting the unsuspecting vacationer (yours truly) firmly into the sand.

Hanakapi'ai Falls

Hanakapi'ai Falls

Four miles into Kauai's Kalalau Trail and after steep elevation increase, the 100-foot high Hanakapi'ai Falls cascades down the ancient rock in epic form and sheer beauty.

Catching the falls as the afternoon light glimmers off the cliffs is one of the many unforgettable spectacles of this Hawaiian region.

My brother makes his way out of a Bamboo grove during an excursion into the jungles of Kauai. Being Texans and enjoying backpacking, the massive landscape within a warm coastal climate was a big plus.

Message in a Bamboo

Message in a Bamboo

Deep in Kauai's jungle sits pods of Bamboo groves. A crisp green color, the stalks hold messages from years of travelers journeying through.

Taking Root

Taking Root

Careening along Kauai's stunning Na Pali Coast, the Kalalau Trail unearths many natural surprises.

These roots display hundreds of years of Hawaiian Island history.

Private Parts

Private Parts

Originally a nude forum, Secret Beach has adjusted to the current propriety laws but maintains its traditional privacy.
Just North of Kilaua, Kauai's most secluded stretch of shore reveals its reach only after a slippery crawl down from the cliffs - keeping it hidden from the mainstream.

Kauai Pacific

Kauai Pacific

Along the North Shore of Kauai, just on the other side Queen's Bath snorkeling haven, the mighty Pacific rules the landscape.

Lifelong Tourists

Lifelong Tourists

A side trip through Corniglia, an eloquent stop along Italy's Cinque Terre, provided excellent food, quaint shops and a glimpse into the personal life of the locals - an elderly couple walking straight into the frame of this charmed photographer.
