The sun had already risen above the peaks surrounding El Tatio Geyser Field in northwest Chile, but the cloud cover remained dense for some time. When a few of the sun's rays finally made an appearance, one shone directly onto the crest of a nearby mountain, accentuating the ridge's sandy orange hue and adding a pop of color to the otherwise grey morning landscape. I turned my camera and clicked!
The tour made several stops as we were returning to San Pedro de Atacama from El Tatio Geyser Field in northwest Chile. We stopped here to look at a nearby example of an endangered flora species. After snapping a shot of the plant, I scurried down the hill to get a picture of this amazing view. There was an unsightly van to my right and a loud tour group not far away, but this picture manages to capture the serenity and isolation of that place. It surprised me that no one else wanted a shot of this landscape.
