One of the many aisles of books in the Sci-fi section of Powell's. There are three glorious floors of books to wander and explore at Powell's.
The beer is good and so is the pizza at Laurelwood Pizza Company, a part of the Laurelwood Brewing family.
The NW Hostel is in a great, cheap stay in Portland. Superb location, beautiful historic neighborhood with many Victorian style houses. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with getting people to the sights. Two large kitchens and free breakfast. What more could you ask for?
I went for the New York Cheese cake with raspberry sauce on the side and had no regrets. I suspect, any choice on desserts at Papa Haydn's is going to be a good one.
People enjoying their breakfast at Tin Shed Garden Cafe. About a third of the people brought their dogs with on their morning breakfast journey. Dogs seem to make a great conversation piece over a meal.

And at a few points the whole room went quiet with all eyes on the chalkboard while everyone tried to figure out what the phrase was. It was a real hit. Above the chalkboards: An overhead projector screen.
My roommate's dog Bella posing ever so nicely in front of the Kennedy School sign. Notice how the leash is still being held.
The light was bouncing between light and dark on the Washington Monument all day on the Mall, still a beautiful day to be strolling in the nation's capital.

I am an amateur worker and professional traveler. Right now I'm living in Bend, Oregon and drinking good beer liberally. I'm working on saving and readying myself for an around the world trip come December 2009 to last until I think I'm done and tired. And the only responsibility I have outside of myself is my cat, Piccadilly.
