(Grand Imperial Mosque of Sultan Abdülmecid, 1855) If you travel to Ortaköy, a small fishing village just south of the Boğaziçi Köprüsü (Bosphorus Bridge) that spans the Bosphorus and walk past the shops and restaurants down to the water you will find a beautiful mosque at the waters edge.

My wife, Brenda, was happily pointing out that the builders of the library had chosen women to represent (from left to right on the bottom level) its four symbols: Wisdom, Virtue, Intelligence, and knowledge. To which I replied, "It figures, Virtue is in the best shape while Intelligence and Knowledge have both lost their heads.
