Bulguk Temple (Bulguksa)

Bulguk Temple (Bulguksa)

Each Buddhist temple in South Korea has four "guardians" in its entry gate. Some are merely painted on the walls. Others, such as the ones at Bulguksa, are larger than life carvings.

Ayanggyo: The Dream Gate

Ayanggyo: The Dream Gate

This bizarre monument to South Korean modern art is known as the Dream Gate (Ayanggyo), and it spans the Geumho River. It can be reached from the Ayanggyo subway station. Descend the steps next to the gate and walk south along the river bank to reach the park with duck-boats.

Okefenokee Alligator

Okefenokee Alligator

The Okefenokee Swamp is home to innumerable alligators.

Okefenokee tree-island

Okefenokee tree-island

Where the layer of peat is thick enough, trees grow and small islands form. (Okefenokee Swamp, Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge)

This shot was taken in the Suwannee Canal, Okefenokee Swamp, Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, at dusk.

Duck boat on the Geumhogang

Duck boat on the Geumhogang

The Geumho River (Geumhogang) runs through Daegu, South Korea. You can rent a duck-shaped peddle-boat and ride around on the water. This shot was taken through a port-hole in my duck boat. Foreigners should be warned: Korean children will take great delight in ramming your boat!
