Pohang International Fireworks Festival

The first weekend in August, Pohang, South Korea hosts the Pohang International Fireworks Festival. In addition to fireworks, there are numerous intricate lanterns to be seen and enjoyed.

Palgong Mountain (Palgongsan)

Palgong Mountain (Palgongsan) is located just north of the city of Daegu, and is a great destination for a day trip out of the city. The mountain is home to numerous Buddhist temples and hiking trails.

Pagye Temple (Pagyesa)

Pagye Temple (Pagyesa) is located just north of Daegu on Palgong Mountain (Palgongsan). This Buddhist temple was founded in 804AD, although all of the structures on site have been reconstructed numerous times over the years.

Bullo Dong Tombs

Located just to the north of Daegu (roughly behind the Daegu International Airport), the Bullo Dong Tomb park contains over 200 traditional Korean tombs dating from 37 BC to 935 AD. The best time to visit the tombs is in springtime, when the tumuli are covered in lush carpets of flowers.

Khrapovitsky Estate

Just outside the small Russian community of Muromtsevo lie the remains of the once impressive Khrapovitsky Estate. Built in the 19th century by Count Khrapovitsky, and he based his architectural designs on medieval German castles, making this estate an oddity in Russia.

Sergiev Posad Trinity Monastery

Founded in 1345, the Sergiev Posad Trinity Monastery (also called the The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius), located in the small community of Sergiev Posad (formerly Zagorsk), approximately one and a half hours outside of Moscow by train is one of the most beautiful monasteries in all of Russia.

Moscow Kremlin

The Moscow Kremlin is the historic heart of Moscow, home to Tsars, Soviet bureaucrats and modern Russian politicians alike, the Kremlin contains not only government buildings but museums, monuments, and historic cathedrals.

Sapelo Island

Sapelo Island is located off the coast of Georgia, roughly midway between Brunswick and Savannah. The few residents of the island are African American descendants of gullah/geechee African communities, brought to the island as slaves.

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, located near Folkston, GA, contains 438,000 acres of the Okefenokee Swamp. The park offers hiking and biking paths, fishing, canoeing, and historical and wildlife exhibits.

Okefenokee Swamp Park

Located just south of the small community of Waycross, GA, Okefenokee Swamp Park is the gateway to the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp. This is a private park (as opposed to the state and national parks which also access the Okefenokee), and entry fees run $12/person.
