Sapelo Island

Sapelo Island is located off the coast of Georgia, roughly midway between Brunswick and Savannah. The few residents of the island are African American descendants of gullah/geechee African communities, brought to the island as slaves.

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, located near Folkston, GA, contains 438,000 acres of the Okefenokee Swamp. The park offers hiking and biking paths, fishing, canoeing, and historical and wildlife exhibits.

Okefenokee Swamp Park

Located just south of the small community of Waycross, GA, Okefenokee Swamp Park is the gateway to the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp. This is a private park (as opposed to the state and national parks which also access the Okefenokee), and entry fees run $12/person.

The Cathedral of Transfiguration is one of the most stunning sites in the small town of Suzdal, located on Russia's historic Golden Ring. Construction on the cathedral began in the early 16th century, and in the 1980s it was restored to its former glory.

Hahoe Folk Village

The Hahoe Folk Village, located near Andong, South Korea, is a living historical village that provides an excellent glimpse into pre-modern Korean life. Be sure to get there before 3:00, as that's when the daily Andong Mask Dance performance begins, and it is a must see!

Beomeo Temple (Beomeosa)

This Buddhist temple located in Busan, South Korea, was originally constructed in 678. The temple has been fully restored and is a beautiful place to visit.

Bogolyubovo

Bogolyubovo, a small yet historic settlement on Russia's famed Golden Ring, was founded in approximately 1158 by Prince Andrei Bogolyubski. It is currently the location of the Bogolyubski Monastery and the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl.

Novodevichy Cemetery

Founded in the late 1800s next to the 16th century Novodevichy Monastery, Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery is regarded as the most famous cemetery in Russia. Not only does it house some of Russia's most famous dead (including Khruschev, Gogol, Bulgakov, Shostakovich and many others), but the graves are not mere tombstones, they're works of art.
