I recently visited the Soulard Art Market in historical Soulard, minutes from downtown St. Louis and discovered the whacky, "outsider" art of Cindy Royal. Her one-of-a-kind creations are a marvel, especially if you like the color purple.
Located in the heart of historical Soulard, this fine art gallery features art by 12 local St. Louis artists. Glass, ceramics, sculpture, photography, and paintings. You can find it all at the SAM gallery.
Set against the austere beauty of black rock desert, the art at burningman cannot be matched.
Bikes are huge at Burningman. Most people bring their own and modify them. In 2007 over 2,000 community bike were painted green and donated to the event.
Burningman has been describes as "Disneyland Turned Upside Down". The emphasis is on community, artwork and self expression. This is my favorite art installation at Burningman titled, Homo Ouroboros. Participants pedaled bikes to make the monkey merrigoround turn. During the night a strobe light gave a stereostobic effect as the monkeys grabbed for each other as a snake delivered the forbidden apple.
Many people at Burningman form small theme camps and provide amusement and entertainment for passers by. My favorite theme camp was Barbie Death Camp and Wine Bistro. As the name suggests, Barbie Death camp revealed thousands of Barbie dolls in various stages of torture. Barbie hung in the gallows, crucified Barbie, Barbie getting run over by her own dream car, Barbie being forced at GI Joe gunpoint into an Easybake over. Plus they were giving out some kick ass Napa Valley Wine. I dare you to print this image.....The Mattell Police will be all over you!
The engergy artists put into their art and structures at Burningman festival is amazing. These massive structures made out of recycled materials were part of an art installation called Crude Awakening.
If you drive for approximately two hours northeast of Reno , Nevada one week before Labor Day you might see a few strange vehicles along the way. These "mutant vehicles" are headed to Burningman, a week-long event in the Black Rock Desert.
Burningman is an art festival of sorts and over 40,000 people strong. this art party of free-wheeling nonconformist, intellectuals , uninhibited artists, and ravers from around the world decend upon a dry lake bed over 100 miles from the nearest supermarket or shopping mall in what can only be described as America's biggest party. At the center of Burningman’s Black Rock City is a 4 story man made out of neon and wood that is set on fire on Saturday night. This temporary city is complete with a radio station, library, cemetery, roller rink, and post office.

Currently in st. louis.
My current passion is an alternative photographic process called Polaroid transfers. Each transfer is hand-made by the photographer using specific materials and equipment to achieve a desired effect. A transparency is projected on to professional Polaroid print film and as development begins, the print and chemicals are prematurely separated. The image is transferred on to dampened watercolor paper for a unique image which has a dated, artistic photo-painting appearance. Exposure,...
