I am the author of the National Outdoor Book Award-winning Top Trails Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks hiking guidebook. I started blogging from Chiapas in 1995 and have written about extreme landscapes from Antarctica to Alaska. I've contributed to two dozen Lonely Planet books, including the Gap Year Book, the Career Break Book, Code Green and the Middle of Nowhere. My Experimental Travel essay explores the rewards of letting a stranger's dog take me for a walk.

I am a former- and future-Tokyoite, and a designer here at Everywhere. I think that no city is too big, no coffee is too cold, and no music is too minimal. I have a particular fondness for bourbon, uneven numbers, and taking photos of power lines. This is a test.
