This plaque appears at Birkenau to mark the tragedies that occurred. There are multiple separate plaques, all bearing the same message, translated into all of the languages spoken by people who died there.
Initially at Auschwitz, prisoners entering the camp were photographed and documented - a practice that lapsed in later years.
Just around the corner from Halytsky market, you'll find the courtyard of a school, featuring some impressive graffiti. It's assuredly sanctioned by the school, or the artists wouldn't have had the time to go into such intricate detail.
