the fog rolls over Japantown

the fog rolls over Japantown

Having never experienced a San Francisco fog, I was very excited to be able to snap this shot on my way back to my homebase, the Hotel Kabuki. Felt like I could just reach up a grab a chunk to bring home with me.

Clarion Alley

Clarion Alley

This is the sign post for what you're about to experience. An alley unlike any other. In fact, it's more like a gallery full of undiscovered talent. San Francisco has a long history in art and in my mind this is where the future begins.

solitary

solitary

It must have been torture to know that the world kept on spinning while you rotted away in solitary on Alcatraz Island. On a beautiful day, the sun beaming in through a crack in the wall would be a brutal reminder of just how much you lost.

no vacancy

no vacancy

No giant lumberjacks or nickles for me. This abandoned roadside motel caught my eye as we drove past because it looked like something out of "The Shining". My Holga did a great job capturing it's eeriness. Hell, notice the ghostly 666 bleeding through the exposure.

who's got the view?

who's got the view?

When I looked off the balcony of our room at the Tickle Pink Inn in Carmel, CA I didn't expect something to be looking back. This gull spent the majority of our 3 day stay hanging out with us, and weirdly enough never seemed to be begging for food. Guess she was just admiring the view as well.

shadowed by the woods

shadowed by the woods

My first look at a Redwood Forest came on a drive up the California coast. An unplanned addition to the trip once I found out about Muir Woods National park, just outside of San Francisco. Funny how dwarfed you feel in the forest, not only because of the sheer size of the trees but because of how long they've been on the planet.

"I remember you well..."

"I remember you well..."

The Hotel Chelsea. The stuff of legends. Immortalized in song. Not sure I'd recommend staying there but a walk-by is essential for any music fan.

Tanah Lot, Bali

Tanah Lot, Bali

Being from the Western world, I've never seen anything quite as unique as this. A once in a lifetime, real-life postcard. My wife and I just sat in awe. Wooden flutes were going off in my head. As true a moment of Zen as I have ever had.
