Coon Carnival

Coon Carnival

A celebration in Cape Town on "die tweede nuwe jaar" (Second New Years) where the Cape Malays parade in the streets in the flashiest outfits dancing to the music. Roots of this festival date back to the days when they were slaves and only had one day a year off. This festival is in rememberance of this.

Colours of the Cape Malay

Colours of the Cape Malay

Beautifully painted houses in the Bo-Kaap area of Cape Town. This is the district of the Cape Malay (Cape coloureds). The colours reflect the vibrancy of the locals in this area.

Heaven

Heaven

Looking down at the most south westerly point of Africa, one feels like it's at the end of the world. Sunset at Cape Point, it is one the most beautiful spots in this world.

Buffalo on top of the berg

Buffalo on top of the berg

The top of the Cedarberg is completely exposed to nature's harshness. The winds, rains, and sunshine that create 'animals' from bygone years as though they have been fossilized from eons ago. As you walk along the top of the mountain, one could mistake it for a mystical land of the animal gods. A true reflection of bushmen art.

Stadsaal

Stadsaal

A rocky outcrop in Stadsaal, location of a bushmen painting. You can almost imagine the elephants thousands of years ago roaming the grounds while the bushmen uses his wood brush to dip into the ochre coloured dye and leave his mark on the walls forever.

The wolf of the Wolfberg cracks

The wolf of the Wolfberg cracks

After a 2 hour hike up the Cederberg under the scorching South African sun, we reach the first stop of our hike - the Wolfberg cracks overlooking the valley of Cederberg. Looking up, we see the keeper of the valley - the wolf of the Wolfberg cracks.
