One can only envy the locals who are lucky enough to live right next to these fields of color. Be sure to respect their private properties when you visit.
Be sure to ask those guiding the tours just how the growers go about deciding which colors they want in which fields. And, how do they get those varigated blooms?
Whether your preference is close up or wide angle, the opportunities for spectacular images abound.
Snowcapped Mount Baker shines in the background of this image, reminding us that cold weather is only starting to give way to the blooming tulips.
Tulips aren't the only crop for this lush agricultural area. It just seems that way in April as the tulips take center stage.
Whatever your favorite color, you're bound to find tulips to match...
With the Cascade Mountains in the background, the views are spectacular.
For as far as the eye can see, the tulips paint the landscape.
Vibrant color adds to the beauty of the fields around Mount Vernon, WA
Each April near Mount Vernon, WA, the fields come alive with a variety of colors from millions of beautiful tulips. In the early morning, harvesters work quickly, sometimes in damp, cold weather to gather the tulips for market. On this day, the sun came out, but the woman pictured still elected to protect her face from the "nip" of the morning hours. Farm labor in Skagit County is provided mainly by the Hispanic members of the community. It may not seem like very glamorous work, but they take pride in supporting their families by working in this beautiful environment.

I am a professional photographer from Redding, California. I have enjoyed photography since my teenage years, but only got serious while living in northwest Washington. The mountains, the streams, the wildlife, the woods--it's just one of the most fabulous places I ever seen. I also enjoy people photography doing mostly family portraiture, high school seniors and some commercial model/product work. I look forward to establishing a great association with Everywhere Magazine.
