I awoke at 3.00am to climb to the summit of this steep and gusty mountain - arrived around 5.00am at the peak - and sat in the dark in a nook in the rocks and waited. Eventually the sun arose and shone some warmth through and revealed this otherworldly view through the skies of Malaysia.

Scrambling up the Sierra Nevadas with our back to interstate 80 we were soon over the crest and into a different world, dotted with mirror-perfect lakes. Viewed from a hike on the Loch Leven Lakes Trail.

Strong winds at high altitude created this amazing lenticuler cloud formation over the Annapurna Sanctuary, Nepal. The summit of Annapurna 1 towers 8091 meters above sea level.
