Jennifer’s travelogue

Beyoğlu

A vibrant, eclectic neighborhood across the Golden Horn from Old Istanbul.

Alcatraz Island

Otherwise known as "The Rock", Alcatraz Island just off the shores of San Francisco. Home to the first lighthouse on the West Coast, not to mention one of the most notorious prison systems, movie set, national park, and the birthplace of the American Indian Red Power movement.

Istiklal Cadessi

At least once in life, preferably several times, you should go to this busy, dynamic melting pot! And here you should stroll up, and down, Istiklal Cadessi.

Dolores Park

Dolores Park is named for the nearby Mission Dolores and is a common hangout for San Franciscans on a sunny day. The park is basically an expansive grass field on a hill with tennis and basketball courts on one side, a clubhouse and sidewalk through the middle, and great views from its highest point.

Sutro Baths

Around the turn of the century Adolph Sutro built the elegant Sutro Baths, a large public natatorium. It was a very popular recreational destination for many San Francisco residents, until it burned down in the 1960s.

Currently in Istanbul at last.

I am a journalist by profession and a photographer by obsession. In both my worlds I am a gleaner, listening and looking for the telling detail to capture, the moment of revelation that slips away too quickly.
