There's one great art destination that can be found just about everywhere in the world. It is the cemetery and it is much more than you may think.
The cemetery's natural landscape provides a beautiful backdrop to the art and architecture scattered throughout, providing an inspiring outing anytime of the year.
Sneeking a peek of the mosaic ceiling of the Wainwright Tomb in St. Louis' Bellefontaine Cemetery can be quite a treat for visitors when the tomb's main doors are open during the warmer months. There are a total of eight angels in all, consisting of four pairs, on the dome ceiling.
Leaves remain undisturbed on the steps of the Wainwright Tomb in early fall. This famous limestone mausoleum is said to depict each of the four seasons in the intricate carvings adorning its four sides, while the simple forms of the cube and semi-sphere attempt to balance both the feminine and masculine qualities in its design.
An Egyptian revival sculpture guards the door to a family's burial place and is unique among the monuments in Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis. Head on, this fellow is also said to bear an uncanny resemblance to Bill Clinton. How's that for a work of art?
