Zagreb, Croatia
I spent six weeks in Croatia in the early winter, when the skies were generally gray, and it started getting dark earlier and earlier. This merry, scary band of snow people helped to brighten a short winter's day.
Montréal, Canada
The Priape store in Montréal's Gay Village never fails to have eye-catching window displays. I liked how the posing boys seemed singularly unimpressed by the mummy in their midst.
Quebec City, Quebec
It was a freezing cold day in Quebec City--as it often is--when I spotted these nails. You have ten fingernails, who says they all have to be the same? The festive hands in the air warmed me right up for a moment.
Františkovy Lázně, Czech Republic
The bald man in the muscle-T that I always knew as Mr. Clean becomes Mr. Proper in one of the Czech Republic spa towns.
San Francisco, California, USA
For the photographer seeking unusual window displays, San Francisco's Chinatown offers a plethora of riches. This scene struck me as both All-American and exotic, a melding of cultures. The juxtaposition of the hanging chickens and the flag reflection was also unintentionally disturbing.
Bratislava, Slovakia
Bratislava is a bustling little city. While it lacks Prague's myriad tourist attractions, it has an artsy spunk all its own. I was drawn to this cheerful collection of hats floating behind glass and was captivated by the way the midday sun layered them into the reflected street scene.
Middlebury, Vermont, USA
Ben Franklin has been on Main Street in Middlebury as long as I have lived there. Other shops have come and gone, but Ben remains, largely unchanged by the years, Main Street as Edward Hopper might have seen it. They carry pretty much everything you need, and then some.
Montréal, Canada
Montréal is a great window shopping town. Even though I live there much of the year, I never run out of new displays to photograph. I was tickled by this somewhat salacious duo on Boulevard Saint-Laurent, aka The Main.
