The Pony Express Tours

Haleakala Ranch trucks its horses up Route 378 to the Haleakala summit so that tourists can ride them down the Sliding Sands Trail to the Crater Floor 2500 feet below. Prior riding experience is recommended before you saddle up to take the inspiring 7.5 mile, 4 hour trip.

The drive up Route 378 to the summit of Haleakala. It is not unusual to see several rainbows as you slowly make your way above the clouds. Your drive begins in forest, travels through pastureland, then shrub land, finally ending in magnificent desolation.

The Meadow in Wilcox Park is its center stage where
The Chorus of Westerly organizes a spectacular the Summer Pops Concert featuring the Boston Pops as well as many smaller acts. As the Pops plays Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and the Newport Artillery fires away a dazzling firework display becomes the grand finale to the concert. People are encouraged to spread a blanket on the ground and bring along a picnic dinner.

John Linton

John Linton has been a member since 17 April 2008 and goes by ride0583.

Currently in sufferable.

I am a retired secondary teacher (32 years) who spent his childhood developing his skills as a military brat while the family moved from one location to another. I attended Gorham State College to avoid the draft, somehow graduated with a teaching degree in the Social Studies, was hired by the Westerly School Department in 1970, and have lived in Westerly, RI ever since. When people ask me what I do now I tell them "Nothing," but I do dabble in photography and travel whenever I can.
