Magnolia Sky

Magnolia Sky

There is nothing quite like that first weekend of Spring in Manhattan, when people from all over the world flee their apartments to enjoy Central Park in bloom. Perfection is sitting in the shade of a cherry blossom or magnolia tree while petals rain all around you...

Pena Palace

Pena Palace

It's impossible to capture all the vibrant colors and whimsical details of the Pena Palace, but here is a snapshot that might give you an idea of what the place is really like...

Pena Entrance

Pena Entrance

From the moment one enters the Pena Palace in Sintra, the whimsical architecture sets the mood, adding playfulness to an otherwise sophisticated palace.

Pena Tiles

Pena Tiles

This wall of the Pena Palace is covered in blue tiles, very characteristic of the houses in Lisbon.

Pena Gargoyle

Pena Gargoyle

A vulgar gargoyle guards the archway to a Pena Palace terrace that overlooks the Portuguese countryside.

Palacio de Pena

Palacio de Pena

This is just one yellow corner of the colorful and funky Palacio de Pena (located in Sintra, Portugal). The architecture combines many styles -- some Arabic, some reminiscent of Barcelona's Gaudi -- creating a truly unique and exciting palace on a serene hilltop about 30 minutes away from Lisbon.

Pink Church, Salta

Pink Church, Salta

Plaza 9 de Julio, the central plaza in the Northern Argentine city of Salta, is framed on one side by the Catedral de Salta, a striking pink and white church. The cotton-candy color pink is so rich, it almost looks like a big wedding cake. Unfortunately, it is not edible. And, surprisingly, the interior is much more humble than the wedding-cake exterior suggests. But it is beautiful, all the same.

Light's On

Light's On

It wasn't quite night yet, but the sun was down. Old buildings surrounded the main plaza of Salta, Argentina, instilling the evening with an eerie atmosphere. At the highest point of this two-story building was a beautiful little tower glowing in orange light. It looked as if the little boy on top is fleeing from a fire, calling for help...

Acapulco Sunset

Acapulco Sunset

The sunset from my room at El Mirador hotel in Acapulco, Mexico just after the famous La Quebrada Cliff Divers finished their risky act.

Bananas and Garlic

Bananas and Garlic

During a walk through a market in Zihuatanejo, I stumbled across a bin full of garlic cloves with four bananas on top of it. I thought it was an odd, but striking combination! (Zihuatanejo, Mexico)
