Scenic Beach State Park near Seabeck, Washington, provides a stunning location for hiking, camping, picnicing, oyster shucking and, of course, photography.
Scenic Beach State Park near Seabeck, Washington provides a stunning view of water and mountains. Even though the Olympic Mountains are not very high, they are dramatic since they are often snow-covered and they rise from sea level. Hood Canal is a fjord off Puget Sound and was formed by glaciers digging our a deep trench along the Olympic Mountain range in Northwest Washington State. Binoculars confirmed the bird was a seagull, but eagles are often seen at this beach looking for fish, small birds and other animals attracted by the huge wild oyster beds located along the waters.
These grasses are clinging to a colorful rock in the intertidal area of the beach at Scenic Beach State Park near Seabeck, Washington. This rocky beach is located along the Hood Canal just west of Seattle, and about a 45-minute drive from Tacoma, or an hour and a half drive from Seattle.
The colorful gravel was formed by advancing and retreating glaciers which dug out the deep Hood Canal. This feature is really a fjord, and is the deepest protected coastal waters completely within the US borders that can accommodate US Navy submarines diving to their deepest dives.
