One evening a local dance group made up of young boys and girls from the neighboring town of Bacalar entertained guests at Rancho Encantado. The group performs "Danzon", a Carribean style of dancing blending Spanish, Creole and Cuban rhythms. This young woman was the featured dancer and was headed to Mexico City to study dance in college.

Ready for Boating on the Laguna

Small boats, including these kayaks, are available at Rancho Encantado or nearby for boating on Laguna Bacalar. The waters are usually calm and serene, and the lake is a great place for beginners to try this sport. Windsurfing, snorkling and scuba are other relaxing activities available on the freshwater lake. Some of the cenotes within the lake can be over 600 feet deep for the deepest dives, but most of the lake is only ten to 20 feet deep.

Mural, Casita #3, Rancho Encantado

This mural is an example of the local art found in each of the casitas at Rancho Encantado. Maya culture in this part of the Yucatan lives on in its people, food, art, ruins of past civilizations, and in the Museum of Maya Culture in Chetumal, just a short drive from our resort.
