Winter at Chambers Bay

Winter at Chambers Bay

Chambers Bay Golf Course was built on the site of a gravel quarry which provided top quality gravel for concrete construction for almost 100 years. The structures next to the golf course are remnants of huge storage bins for mined gravel. The waters of Puget Sound to the west of the course provide a scenic view of the Olympic Mountains in the background. Fox Island is to the right.

Chambers Bay Golf Course

The upper level of Chambers Bay Golf Course south of Seattle, near Tacoma, looks over a magnificent vista of Puget Sound peninsulas and islands. The golf course has huge fairways in the style of the Scottish links that started golfing. The bright summer green contrasts with the natural sand of the undulating course, site of the 2015 US Open and 2010 US Amateur.

The New Chambers Bay Golf Course is a publicly-owned, links-style course along Puget Sound South of Seattle near Tacoma, Washington. It has long, undulating fairways lined with native grasses and sand dunes. The is the tee area for hole #3. The site is a former gravel quarry, and the sand has been moved around, but is natural to the site.

This abstract work is most prominent due to its red-orange color, size and location at the highest point in the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle. It was created in 1971 from steel and is almost 40 feet tall.

Currently in Tacoma, enjoying the mild summer breezes off Puget Sound..

I am a traveler who likes scenic spots, eco-tourism, adventure travel and voluntourism living in Tacoma, Washington, where Mount Rainier is a misty memory and occasional visitor in the winter or an everpresent luminescent beacon in the summer.
