A massage over the lapping waters of the Laguna Bacalar in this palapa is one of the most relaxing hours ever spent. Four hand massages are available as well as a variety of herbal wraps and aromatherapy treatments.
Early morning is serene on Laguna Bacalar at Rancho Encantado. The dock invites swimming or relaxing in the hammocks in the shade later in the day when the sun is bright and warm.
This mural is an example of the local art found in each of the casitas at Rancho Encantado. Maya culture in this part of the Yucatan lives on in its people, food, art, ruins of past civilizations, and in the Museum of Maya Culture in Chetumal, just a short drive from our resort.
Rancho Encantado is located in the jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula. Small casitas line the Laguna Bacalar, a pristine lagoon renowned for its vibrant colors, clear waters and limestone bottom.
Rancho Encantado is located right off a main highway, but it is tucked away in the jungle, down a short, primitive road.
The Studio is a creative space for visitors at the Museum of Glass. Adults, as well as children of all ages, will find art supplies and creative assistants to help create a masterpiece. Or, as one young visitor has done, you can let the creativity flow while you rest a bit. The window into the Studio is reflecting the diamond pattern of the stainless steel cone adjacent to this space.

The best lunch on the beach is at Playa Lanchero, a long-time institution on Isla Mujeres. Whole fish and other meats are cooked over an open pit grill with Maya-style achiote spice rub and served family style. The guacamole is the best in Mexico. We treated our friend Plutarco and his family to a meal here. We always ask for his taxi when we come to Isla Mujeres.
Sunsets on the beach on tropical islands like Isla Mujeres are a joy to experience. Each one is different and brings the excitement of the day to a cooling close.
This couple and their dog were enjoying the sun and shade of the late afternoon at Playa Norte, one of many beaches on Isla Mujeres, a Caribbean Island just off the coast of Mexico near Cancun. Isla Mujeres retains the feel of old Mexico while offering the visitor comfortable accommodations and a wide range of restaurants.
