Garden Path to NautiBeach
This is the path we took to the beach every day while we were on Isla Mujeres, an idyllic island off the coast of Mexico near Cancun. The Caribbean waters were still and warm in the late October sunshine.

Frogs on Crypt
Isla Mujeres has a small cemetery full of crypts and burial sites that go back to its days as a pirate haven. Because of the lack of available land, crypts are built one on top of another. This one features frogs or toads.

Beach Vendors take a Break
These beach vendors at Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres, Mexico take a break from selling their wares. Everything seems more relaxed and slower on Isla Mujeres, even the occasional presence of the vendors on public beaches. We always anticipate one vendor who sells roasted pumpkin seeds, or pepitos. She has your choice of flavorings, but we like a tiny bit of salt, chile powder and fresh lime juice. It is a refreshing treat after soaking up the sun or swimming in the warm water.

Palapas Brighten the Beach
Beach clubs dot the island's coasts. Visitors who stay on the island can join with the Cancun party crowds during the day, or they can find plenty of almost-empty bars and restaurants on the beach after the crowds from Cancun leave in mid-afternoon.

Playa Norte Hammock Girl
This little girl was getting ready to jump into her hammock on the beach at Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Isla Mujeres is a very short ferry ride from Cancun and has a laid-back life style, with great beaches and a Mexican flavor.

Nauti-Beach Fun
This couple was enjoying the late afternoon sun at Nauti-Beach, one of the many beaches on Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Isla Mujeres is a relatively unspoiled island off the coast of Mexico near Cancun. A short ferry ride from Cancun, it is a respite from the crowded mega resorts at Cancun for people looking for a quieter vacation.

Afternoon Storm, Isla Mujeres
The beach deserted quickly when a cool breeze blew in with an afternoon storm. Isla Mujeres is an island off the coast of Mexico, near Cancun. It is a laid-back treasure island, where high-rise mega resorts are absent. After the last hurricanes, boats brought beach goers from Cancun since many of the beaches in Cancun were washed away. This scene is on Playa Norte near Nauti-Beach Condos.

West Yellowstone, Montana
This pastoral scene is just outside West Yellowstone, Montana, not too far from the Idaho border. In the fall the native grasses turn golden and fresh snow dusts the higher hiss and peaks. On this day in late August, the park was closed for two days because of heavy snows.
