The dramatic landscapes of the Rangitikei District are a highlight of a journey on the Overlander.
There are several viaducts crossing this stunning river in the North Island.
Sheep are a staple in the New Zealand landscape. Actually, they're a bit of a staple in the New Zealand diet too.

Ohakune is a ski town, and the carrot capital of New Zealand. Keep an eye out for the giant carrot...
One of many viaducts along the Overlander route, this is one of the longest viaducts in New Zealand.
The trains from both directions stops for a crew change at National Park, and although Mount Ruapehu, or the mountain as it is sometimes called on the North Island, wasn't visible, there was a sausage sizzle (aka a barbecue) on the platform.
Even a deluge of rain can't hide the beauty of the North Island.
After the rain, there is a freshness to the countryside.

I am a storyteller. I love a good story, whether it's told through words or photos. My love of travel started when I started travelling--in 1994 when I was an exchange student in New Zealand.
