haystack rock

haystack rock

weather on the oregon coast in the springtime can go from 70 and sunny to rain blowing sideways in about 5 minutes, but i believe it might be the prettiest time of year. while the summer is definitely the peak season, i prefer coming earlier in the year when the skies can be dark and stormy and the waves crash into the shore without abandon. this picture was one of those moments were you are lucky enough to almost catch a bit of the emotion a scene like this reders.

mid-day dip

mid-day dip

about 20 minutes outside granada, this crater lake is an oasis to the hustle and bustle of the market towns that surround it. the lake itself is the deepest point in central america and maintains a lovely warm temperature due to underwater thermal vents. the lake is surrounded by a old colonial mansions and small resorts as well as several colonial mansions that are small resorts. this photo was taken as we were walking back from lunch (an experience in itself) as our fellow guests decided to take the plunge in the early evening.

swimming hole

swimming hole

there are swimming holes and then there are SWIMMING HOLES. as sort of a connoisseur of these types of things i was pleasantly surprised to find this spot when we decided to check the place out on a last minute whim. the water was striking, so clear you could see curious fish swimming along side you. the water cascades over massive granite boulders and you can let the current take you from pool to pool, just keep in mind the swim back.

not bad for australia

not bad for australia

in a country largely full of red dirt and outback adventure trips, it's easy to forget that australia, too, can be a tropical paradise. the sand on whitehaven beach on whitsunday island is 98 percent pure silica and can be used to polish jewelry and glass, although it's not bad just to bury your feet in either. maybe even more spectacular than viewing the azure waters of the pacific ocean from the beach is viewing the beach from the deck of your sailboat by moonlight. the sand literally glows, creating a white ribbon of light on the horizon.

Kotowa Coffee Estate

Kotowa Coffee Estate

After taking a taxi a few miles out of Boquete, Panama to tour this coffee estate we were turned away only to find that the guide to the estate had to be hired in town. The family was kind enough to let us peek into the original processing mill and take a few pictures.

SF from Coit Tower

SF from Coit Tower

After a rather soggy morning, the fog cleared to shower the bay city with beautiful blue skies. While probably a fairly common picture taken from the top of Coit Tower, the contrast of black on blue and the skyline with money slipped through the window provide complex detail to such a simple photograph. Art is evident in and out of this San Franciscan landmark.

I am one who will always believe that true knowledge is learned through experience. With this in mind, I am out to experience the world through words, pictures, and most especially from a first hand. When I am not traveling, I am yearning to. When I am yearning to travel I work in a physical therapy office to attempt to support this addiction. Travel is the greatest teacher and I its most devoted pupil. See you somewhere, someday.
