A long white line of bubbling water caused by the propellers of this ferry faring from Calais, France to Dover, United Kingdom. A clear and crisp day at sea can be mind altering, refreshing and relaxing. I always enjoy a trip starting out like this. Mind you October usually is not the best time to travel by ferry especially not on deck. It can get really nasty and you need a strong stomach and constitution to withstand this kind of activity provided by mother nature. When you travel from France to the UK do it like this,
A strip on the German Dutch border near Winschoten shows two alternative fuel sources. WInd Energy and bio fuel in the form of rapeseed. Some people find that energy generating wind mills are poluting horizons. Some people even were the ones who marched in the 70.s and 80's against nuclear energy but lets be honest I don't find this an ugly sight. It's stimulating as it makes the world cleaner to live in and promotes proper growth of crop and forrests that sustain our life form.
One of the two piers that protect Scheveningen port against mother nature's waves. During storms the piers are closed down to the public as more then ones people got hurt due to the gusts of wind blowing them of the pier. This was taken on a cold winter day and it is worth while having a strawl along one of the piers when the weather is like this. Very relaxing and soothing.
A very cloudy, dark but also firy skyline early in the morning the Dutch city of The Hague.
aaaaaah the White Cliffs of Dover. These cliffs still house a very large concrete parabolic antenna that functioned as an interceptor for German planes untill the first Interceptor Radar (my father was part of the dev team) was implemented. Still get a frog in my throat when the ferry floats into the port. A very impressive massive wall of limestone and green grass cover. Kent is worthwhile visiting, lots of history and beautifull places to lay your eies on. Some places that are near Dover are Rye, Canterburry, Hawkinge (old 2nd WW airfield is still there), Margate and Ashfor
This castle used to be part of the DoD and during the 2nd WW the operational part of the British DoD was partly housed in the white cliffs next to it. A very interesting place to visit and you can spend at least 4 hours on the grounds and not have seen everything.
A large barrier protects Dover port from mother nature's waves.
Two small lighthouses on the barrier shielding Dover (Kent, UK) harbour from the sea.
Surrounding this location there are still numerous, V1's, Spitfires and other flying monsters on the seabed as this location was an active part of the Battle of Brittain. It's situated only 36 km's from the France's coastline
Ellis Island the gateway to the New World now a big museum but in the 19th Century a place where the start of a new life began or dreams were broken. The best time to take photographs is either in the morning or after 4-5 O'clock when the sun is not as intense.
This is one of the small lighthouses that you can find on both sides of the canal leading to Scheveningen port, The Netherlands. It might look like a tropical beach but you wouldn't say so during autumn, winter and spring. Holland get's a lot of storms and high seas every year. But it is worth visiting as The Hague is right next door and there is enough to do for both people that enjoy the outdoor life (sailing, surfing, kite surfing, cycling etc) as well as people that are looking for culture and shopping opportunities.
