Tomb of Khai Dinh

Tomb of Khai Dinh

The tomb of Khai Dinh near Hue was built between 1920 and 1931. It is a concrete goliath built into a hillside and is one of my favorite tombs of the Nguyen Dynasty. There are huge dragon banisters and a retinue of elephant, horse, and mandarin statues.

Gates at Minh Mang Tomb

Gates at Minh Mang Tomb

There are several impressive Royal Tombs around Hue from the Nguyen dynasty. This series of three gates is at the tomb of Minh Mang and is the entrance to the Honor Courtyard where animals were sacrificed. It was built between 1841 and 1843.

Cha Ca!

Cha Ca!

Cha Ca is one of Hanoi's most famous dishes. It consists of fish slices, greens, and peanuts sauteed over a charcoal fire on your table. Then you spoon some over fresh rice noodles and wash it down with some ice-cold local beer. Simple and delicious!
