A growing trend for rest areas is to have a separate area for Pet Walking and have signage to depict it. This was true of the Mohawk Rest area off of 1-17 in Arizona. The designated pet areas are away from the main traffic of a rest area, and are likely that way to prevent the human areas to be contaminated with the smell of the pet areas. It is key on a road trip to abide by these signs.
