The Carnival of Oruro is the main cultural festival in Bolivia. For a few days, the city is crowded with people coming from all parts of Bolivia and a few foreigners as well.
The tradition comes from pre-spanish-colonization times and the andean culture evidently plays a major role. However, many of its elements were "christianized" by the spanish people.
This foto represents this curious and diverse mix - perhaps domination? - of cultures. The christian cross oversees the carnival parade in the streets of Oruro.
