This photo was taken at the Castles of Gonder in Ethiopia. I felt embarrassed to take their picture. I didn't want to exploit their lot somehow. For me, it felt like honoring the because I will never forget them. We could not see any tools in their hands; if anything, it had to be something very small. They may have just been "picking" it. What an absolutely endless job. I was very moved to imagine that this was how they spent many hours a day.
