Hua Zang Si is a Buddhist Temple occupying an old church in the Mission district. It's run (I think) by nuns from Taiwan who are very sweet and welcoming.
It may, however, be not quite what you expect from a Buddhist temple -- given that we tend to be more used to Zen flavors of Buddhism here in the U.S. It can seem a little garish and I think they could use a little helping gearing their english materials to an American ear.
All true... but actually, they represent a very ancient Chinese and traditional sect of Buddhism. It does sound strange to the English ear, but it's actually a very authentic representation of how Buddhism is practiced across much of Asia.

Very true. I lived in Taiwan for a few years, and this is definitely the preeminent type of Buddhism I found there.
