Photo: Cinque Terre

Even before I moved to Florence I had heard mythic travel rumors about Cinque Terre on Italy's west coast. Above five picturesque waterfront villages steep cliffs tower over the ocean. To the west we watched magnificent sunsets from our apartment, and to the east we hiked the terraced hills between the towns. A fellow traveler journals in the afternoon sun on our balcony.
