The large Onofrio fountain in Dubrovnik (Croatia) was originally built 1444 above a large cistern gathering the water coming in by aqueduct from 12 km away.

In the background are the church "Sveti Spas" and the old Franciscan monastery

During the Balkan war the fountain was hit with a shell, destroying the domed roof of the fountain. In recent years it has been replaced with the dome you can see in this photo - further restoration is planned for the future.

Today the city is once again teeming with tourists enjoying the sights.
